Below Deck Down Under: Chef Ryan defends his cooking

Below Deck Down Under’s Chef Ryan McKeown has defended himself after receiving backlash from viewers for his attitude and cooking on the hit series.

The Philadelphia-born foodie has been criticised for serving guests ‘basic’ dishes like tacos and burgers, but he insists he was just giving the guests what they asked for.

‘They asked for tacos, they got tacos,’ he told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. ‘So throw me all the hate people want to throw me. I’m enjoying every bit of it.’

He added: ‘It’s super entertaining how much time our fans spend. It’s like a lot of tunnel vision. So I’m cool with it. I love it.’

Ryan also said the ‘guests are happy’ – despite being portrayed as unsatisfied with his cooking on the show.

‘There’s a lot of tidbits where the guests said, “The steak was the best I ever had,”‘ he said, before adding that one guest specifically requested ‘s**t Mexican food’.

‘And I’m the a**hole for serving tacos!’ he added.

Ryan has repeatedly clashed with Chief Stewardess Aesha Scott over his refusal to tell guests what they’re having before being served.

And the controversial cook seems to be at the centre of all the drama in the recently released mid-season trailer.

Below Deck Down Under has already delivered one of the most dramatic seasons in the history of the yachting franchise.

In one scene, he complains that Aesha’s laugh is fake during a heated dinner party.

He then screams at stewardess Magda Ziomek, presumably for being friendly with Aesha, shouting: ‘You’re two-faced as f**k!’

Aesha is then shown in tears in her bunk, sobbing to deckhand Brittini Burton: ‘I really pride myself on how hard I work.’

Ryan later gets a serving from Captain Jason himself during a clash in the kitchen.

‘Let me finish my dinner and you can talk all you want,’ Ryan says dismissively.

‘No, no, now listen,’ responds Jason. ‘I don’t want your attitude. I’m your captain. If you want to bring it up three decibels, I’ll bring it up four!’

Chef Ryan continues to cause chaos and is later seen losing control at a nightclub during a wild altercation.

‘Call me a f***ing loser, dude!’ he screams as a producer is forced to physically restrain him.

Ryan’s castmates are seen in a nearby booth looking shocked as Ryan kicks a table and sends bottles of Corona shattering on the ground.

The trailer also teases more tension between Bosun Jamie Sayed and Captain Jason, as well as a romance between Brittini and Culver Bradbury.

Many viewers have branded Ryan ‘the worst chef in Below Deck history’ due to his stubbornness in the kitchen and disgruntled personality.

‘That is the laziest, most conceited, selfish and disrespectful chef I’ve seen on any of the Below Deck series. Chief Stew Aesha is confident and very patient with him. He’s a nutball,’ raged one.

‘Imagine paying $20,000 for a two-night yacht stay and getting Ryan’s poisonous food,’ tweeted another. ‘I’d be very disappointed.’
